Hi there! My name is Yi Qin and I am a registered counsellor and psychotherapist with experience providing psychological services for young adults, middle-aged and senior-aged clients in both Australia and Singapore. I completed my Master of Psychotherapy and Counselling with distinction at Western Sydney University, and is honoured to have the opportunity to journey with my clients through their lives.
My practice is focused on helping clients facing difficulties in their life and/or relationally with others. I use an integrative approach in my work with clients, drawing from both the Western, scientifically-validated therapeutic models, as well as the time-tested art of living influenced by Asian philosophy. You can expect to feel less emotionally distressed as we progress through therapy, and find a fresh perspective to your situation. Much of the work is done experientially, meaning the results simply cannot be replicated outside of the therapeutic space.
My humanistic approach to working with clients comes from personal experience as someone who was on the other side of the chair as client. Growing up with depression and alexithymia since my teens, I did not understand the impact that childhood trauma played on my life until I learned about it in my course. After seeing two clinical psychologists, who were not attuned to my needs, I finally found the space that I needed from a counsellor and have healed tremendously from my old emotional wounds. As such, I can understand and empathise with the hesitancy and fear of seeking help, but is also heartened by the courage that clients have by showing up and prioritising their own emotional well-being.
As a therapist, I strive to be authentic and warm, with a sprinkling of humour. During my spare time, I enjoy taking photos, playing video games and shooting basketball and darts. I have also recently picked up rock climbing (both bouldering and high wall) as a passion project.
